Imagine this when you’re thinking about selecting homeowners insurance… You drive up to your home and then discover that it’s going to be a bad day. The dryer you left running… well, maybe you should have turned it off before you just “ran down the street for a minute”. Your day is about to get worse. It’s highly probable that you may find yourself in this situation at least once in your life – hopefully not more. Regardless, that homeowners insurance policy that you bought is about to become EXTREMELY important to you. Numerous companies offer home insurance and you need to pick the best one. You need to have the correct coverages and the most reasonable policy limits. What should you be looking at? Let’s take a peek at your homeowners insurance.

In it’s most basic form, home insurance, (usually referred to as HOI in insurance-speak), is a kind of coverage that covers you so that in the event of a peril like water, fire, tornado, earthquake, lightning damage, or even an explosion, a homeowner can be assured that they should be safe from the monetary hit that would otherwise accompany it. Now, while you may have homeowners insurance coverage, don’t kid yourself into thinking that you are fully covered for all losses from all perils. You may or may not be. The time to verify it is BEFORE you find yourself actually having to use your policy! With the help of a trusted insurance agent, a homeowner should have adequate coverage for whatever befalls you. Sadly, not every insurance agent is good and not every insurance policy truly has the coverages you specifically require. Sadly, you may only discover this out after an incident. Insurance companies are famous for their small print that a lot of insureds never even see. You need to be aware of what in the heck that insurance policy covers BEFORE the fact. When you’re LOOKING at a property damage claim is the NOT a good time to learn about your coverage.
Right off the bat, if you haven’t done it, GO THROUGH the homeowners insurance policy. Settle down with a cup of coffee and thumb through it. Sure there’s a a bunch of jargon in those pages that will be like reading a foreign language, but you should be able to get some indication of what is there. Read your policy again. And again if needed. Now, armed with the questions that you will likely have, call your helpful insurance agent and ask him to clear up whatever is unclear. With my insurance agent, he quickly starts speaking insurance lingo, so I regularly have to ask him what that means in English. He’s usually reasonably accomodating.
Now – you need to ensure that the homeowners insurance policy covers the full value of your house in addition to contents. If you have a $ 250K house as it sits, and somehow the insurance policy is showing it as $ 200K, you NEED to adjust it asap. You may save a couple bucks with lower insured home value, but it could cost you MUCH MUCH more when you need to use that policy. If you do a quick internet search, you will find a bunch of blits about people getting caught short because of low coverage insurance. It’s YOUR obligation to verify the listed values are proper. Ditto on your inside contents. If you have a super special first edition comic book collection and it’s worth anything of note, you need to tell your insurance agent – make sure you’ve got it on your home policy as a rider.

We also suggest that you should check out your insurance company. Some companies have a less than wonderful history of covering their insureds. Some companies routinely lowball their insureds in any property damage claim. Keep in mind, insurance companies don’t make money by playing nice. They’re right there every year to grab your insurance premium for yourpolicy, but when you need THEM to be there? There are a lot of good insurance companies that would love to have you as a client, but ther’s a number of them that won’t be there the way you expect when you are relying on them!

Question by angflyboy86: Does uninsured motor insurance cover damage to a car in North Dakota?
My car was hit in a parking lot, and the person who hit me cannot be found. I want to know if my uninsured/underinsured coverages covers body damage. I only have liability insurance. Is it worth reporting a claim, will my insurance cover getting my car fixed?
Best answer:
Answer by Jason T Who do you have insurance with? Contact your local agent and just say “I was wondering if my car gets hit in a hit and run, if my current insurance would cover that?” If they say yes, it would cover, then tell them “Okay, then I have a claim.” If they say “No,” Just say, “Okay thanks!” and hang up.
Edit:
Foshizel is wrong, in ND all you need is liability coverage. I do not keep collision on one of my vehicles because it’s only worth about $ 600. The liability is to pay for the other guys car if you get in a collision.
Pulaski TN Storm Damage – Call 931-451-5011 www.southernexteriorsroofing.com Southern Exteriors 4922 Port Royal Rd. C-11 Spring Hill, TN. 37174 Pulaski TN storm damage over this past year often produced serious water damage as a result of flooding. This type of disaster originated from different sources including above normal rainfalls, heavy snowfall, abnormal jet stream patterns, levees breaking, etc. The reason for the emergency may be varied but the end result is the same. 1. Pulaski TN storm damage produces regional floods. This phenomenon usually occurs in the winter and spring months when the ground is still frozen or the ground is saturated. Rivers and streams already full from melting snow can quickly overflow as the spring rains arrive. Frozen ground does not allow soil absorption and results in runoff. Pulaski TN storm damage caused many businesses to lose millions of dollars due to water damage. 2. Pulaski TN storm damage caused Flash Floods. Again, periods of intense rainfall in short time frames can produce a flash flood. Land topography plays a critical role. Urban areas are prone to this event because paved streets, underpasses, roofs, and parking lots act as man-made streams. With Pulaski TN storm damage the water will take the path of least resistance. Mountainous areas can also create fast moving currents because of natural canyons and slopes.
